What pear varieties will pollinate each other?

Hi Team,
I'm looking to purchase some pear trees for category 4 growing zone. There are 4 available (https://www.plantagen.se/parontrad/?prefn1=ProductPlantZoneSE&prefv1=4). Can you tell me which of these trees are good couples that can pollinate each other?
Thanks!
Arthur

  • Hello Arthur!

It's great to hear from you!

From the four types on the link you sent (Vidnaja, Esperens Herre, Göteborgs Diamant & Gieser Wildeman), only Esperens Herre and Göteborgs Diamant are two that I know are compatible.

However, when it comes to pollination, there are new fruit varieties developed all the time. Most of these, while usually far more resistant to pests and diseases, haven't had a chance to appear in any pollination charts yet.

A good rule of thumb would then be to aim for trees that flower during roughly the same time. Early flowering trees usually goes well with other early flowering ones, and so on.

If you live in a place where there are other nearby pear trees planted, it could very well be that whatever tree you pick already has a suitable pollination pal close by. Pollinators can fly quite a bit between trees after all!

    Hope this helps ☀
